GPS trackers in trafficked animal parts

I just saw this article about embedding GPS trackers in fake turtle eggs. It reminded me of the Nat Geo story from last year where they did a similar thing with fake tusks. This seems like a promising technique, especially as tracking beacons get smaller and cheaper. It's really neat that they are getting special effects professionals involved to make the fakes as realistic as possible.

Do you know of other similar projects going on out there? Especially if they are being done in concert with local law enforcement that is leading to arrests and convictions.
