Protecting Communities & the Amazon: Artisanal Mining Grand Challenge open until Nov 17!

Conservation X Labs is running the Artisanal Mining Grand Challenge: the Amazon with the support of the US Agency for International Development, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Microsoft, and ESRI to reduce the environmental and social impacts of artisanal and small scale gold mining in the Amazon and provide technical and financial assistance to organizations with solutions and innovations to support this goal.

We welcome organizations with innovations, technologies, or approaches to support our goals of:

1. Safeguarding ecosystems and protecting human health

This may include monitoring tools that produce actionable data as well as solutions that monitor protected areas to prevent the intrusion of ASGM miners.

2. Developing a more transparent and cleaner gold supply chain

3. Improving formalization and governance in the sector.

This may include monitoring tools that facilitate data collection and sharing; enable titling — especially for women and indigenous peoples; monitor and sustain compliance and legal status over time; empower affected communities;
