I would like to let folks know about a grant funding event that is going on for the next couple of weeks until 22 September 2022. The organization hosting the funding is Gitcoin, a crypto-based company helping to pay people for work they do to support a range of causes. They use a quadratic funding model, so small donations of a few dollars are matched at a much greater rate than larger donations. Gitcoin just launched its first funding round focused on advancing the decentralized science (DeSci) movement. I expect most of the folks reading this are not active in the blockchain/crypto/web 3.0 space and possibly never heard of DeSci, but I still encourage you to browse the grants I list below and explore others to see some of the grassroots activity going on. The number of cosystem/conservation initiatives is growing.

There is a tremendous amount of potential using tools being developed using Web 3.0 technology like blockchain. I have been working in this space focused on incentivizing ecosystem regeneration projects for a little over a year, and it is amazing to see all of the research and experimentation around different tools and methods. The media focuses on the financial trading component of crypto, but there is so much more going on.

I realize entering this crypto space can seem daunting, but I encourage folks to explore it from the outside even if they don’t intend to jump in. For those non-crypto literate folks that do want to participate, I wrote a guide intended to make the crypto entry process a little less daunting. The projects listed below all welcome non-crypto literate, so if a project is of interest, reach out to them using one of the social media links, and they will welcome you.

These are a few Gitcoin grants that may be of interest to you, your colleagues, and friends:

- A decentralized science (DeSci) community building project to catalyze a community of scientists supporting ecosystem regeneration.

- A project to protect bottlenose dolphins in and around Uruguay. Carolina may develop a Regen credit methodology around this project.

- A project to develop a community supporting animal movement research.
