The WILDLABS Variety Hour isn’t a show, or a lecture, or a workshop. It's an engaging, fun, and interactive gathering, giving you a welcoming space to share your own projects and resources, ask and answer questions, have insightful conversations, meet collaborators, make friends, and get to know the conservation tech community in a new way.

Great ideas and discussions are sparked when people who share a passion for conservation tech unite. The Variety Hour: February

This month, we're picking up an emerging converation in the community about ChatGPT, and have invited Josh Seltzer open up the debate in the Variety Hour setting. Andrea Kölzsch will introduce Moveapps, a no-code analysis platform for animal tracking data and winner of the 2022 Conservation Tech Award. Hari Prasath and Abhijit Kumar Nageshkumar will share their work to develop a system to monitor green turtles in India. Finally, Dr. Gilberto Câmara will talk about important cloud services for Earth observation (EO) data analysis like Google Earth Engine (GEE) or Microsoft Planetary Computer (MPC) - but what are the strong points of each? What are their weaknesses? Join to learn more!

Dr. Gilberto Câmara: Big Earth Observation Data Analysis: What separates the offerings from Google, Microsoft, and others? (15 mins)
This talk will discuss the current status of the data and tools available for users to analyse big Earth observation data set. As a result of decision by major space agencies to make their EO data openly available, large IT organisations such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have build data and analysis services. The European Commission is also building a comparable service. Although most of the data available in these services is similar, there are considerable differences on the analysis services available to users and their terms of service. This talk will present what is currently available and the possible evolution of these services in the near future.
