The Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) through its Cooperative Institute for Climate & Satellites – Maryland (CICS-MD) seeks to fulfill a scientific coordinator position for data management, multiple-project organization, and knowledge dissemination of its collaborative research. This position reflects NOAA's effort to establish the scientific foundation of the next-generation architecture in the 2040 timeframe, as well as to work on exploring maturing new technologies for the prospect of including it in the future observing systems portfolio. It is highly collaborative and interactive with the multiple project teams that consist of the scientists and engineers at the NOAA Center for Satellite Application & Research (STAR) and their partners at NASA centers, as well as industry and academia.
The main technical role of this position is data management, including but not limited to:
- establishing the list of sensor specifications
- identifying needed data by the project teams
- interacting with data providers for formatting and sensors manufacturers for sensor characterization and compatibilities
Another important role of this position is overall coordination and support of knowledge dissemination effort for the team project.
- Doctoral or Masters degree in Meteorology, Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field
- Demonstrated organizational and communication skills
- Expertise in data management
