I'd highly suggest going with a pre-built service like AWS Rekognition or Google Vision, as their models are already trained with more images that you could possible do yourself. (read more)

Thanks for the reply. It'd mainly be for data acquisition, ie: weather as well as possible hydrophone and other sensors to measure parameters in the ocean. There's no fixed project for it yet, but wanted to know how difficult to build one. This type of thing keeps resurfacing... (read more)
