BirdBot is a machine learning product that contributes to wildlife research and conservation. It leverages AI to obtain bird data, which includes features such as: general bird species, presence and absence data, on-screen bird count, predator detection, and more. The data is collected by citizen scientists and can be utilized by researchers or environmental enthusiats to develop a network of wildlife cameras. BirdBot was built by leveraging Python to scrape images of birds from Google, and then a Tensorflow model was designed to clean the datasets to build a highly accurate object detection model for bird species identification. After the image dataset is collected and cleaned, it is then uploaded to Microsoft Custom Vision AI.
